Bio
With the 2012 release of her debut album Dream Life, Mary Epworth has emerged as one of the UKs most exciting talents.
The albums success in blending 1960s West Coast psychedelia with gospel and dream pop has gained Mary widespread radio exposure as well as glowing reviews from among others, The Times, Q and Clash.
Mary, whose varied influences range from Iggy Pop and The Beach Boys to Joe Meek and Fever Ray, says of Dream Life: We wanted to go for an ambitious, not a by the book production.
Innovative production techniques on the album, which was recorded in a Norfolk barn, included putting the instruments through a flanger and using a harpsichord and space echo.
Her powerful, atmospheric voice has also helped make Mary one of the most in- demand live acts in the UK. During 2012 her headline show at the Royal Albert Halls Elgar Room was a sell out and she has played a string of festivals including Hop Farm, Standon Calling, Bestival and Festival Number 6.
Other highlights during her breakthrough year have included a Daytrotter session, an in-store performance at Rough Trade and covering Fleetwood Macs Oh Daddy for Mojos covermount tribute CD, Rumours.
BBC 6 Music, Radio 1, Radio 2 and XFM are among those to feature tracks from Dream Life, with Black Doe and Long Gone gaining single of the week accolades on both Shaun Keavenys 6Music breakfast show and XFM Xposure. Dream Life was also named album of the day by 6Music.
Further radio coverage has included sessions for BBC 6Musics Lauren Laverne and Cerys Matthews as well as features on 6Musics Radcliffe and Maconie and Zane Lowes Radio 1 show.
