Bio

When Mary Grace Koile begins to make music time stops and songs become moments. She approaches every musical experience as the present; unique and wonderful. Mary-Grace is well traveled and spiritually sound, an enlightened young artist with an old soul. Her eclectic songwriting draws on her experiences traveling in India, doing missionary work in Spain and her adventures living in the north end of Halifax. Her songs are compassionate, warm, emotionally grounded. Using a unique playing style that encompasses a labyrinth of guitar tunings she weaves her tapestry.

Committed to building a life as a songsmith, Mary Grace is making friends and gathering respect in the Halifax music community through comradery and her genuine interest in other’s musical projects (Dammien Alexander, Andru Branch and Halfway Tree). She has shared the stage with many including Jenn Grant, Down with Butterfly, Anew Airship, and Tanya Davis. Her experiences are as diverse as singing at the Atlantic Jazz Festival, placing in the top 100 on Canadian Idol at the age of 16, and as a guest vocalist with Anew Airship and Ryan MacGrath and Harlow in November 2007 at The Music Nova Scotia Showcase in Liverpool. Most recently Mary-Grace has performed at the "In The Dead Of Winter" festival in a songwriters circle with Jenn Grant as well as a solo set recorded for CBC radio.

Her recently formed backline is made up of Mike Ritchie on keys, Mark Bachynski on drums, and Phil MacKenzie on bass. Mary-Grace’s sound is folk-influenced with alluring soundscapes and upbeat rhythms that give her live performance an experimental flare. Her vocals and songwriting style have been compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Sarah McLaughlin. Mary-Grace released her debut EP “Labour of Love”, with six original songs, in September 2007. Her first LP will be on the shelves in September 2008, with 10 new songs and a new story to tell. She has been touching souls city-wide with her smooth vocals and inspirational lyrics.
