Bio

Once described as sounding like the product of an ‘extra marital affair between Joni Mitchell and Robert Plant’, Mary Leay releases her debut album recorded at Steve Winwood’s studios in Gloucestershire. The singer songwriter, born in Fenstanton Cambridge, has featured on the soundtracks of several recent acclaimed films including 'Decoy Bride' starring David Tennant and ‘Forget Me Not’ starring Tobias Menzies.

Her previous band performed at Guilfest, City Showcase and The Borderline’s singer songwriter festival attracting high praise from the likes of DJ Kevin Greening, The Guardian, Get Rhythm magazine and TNT. Then, having decided on a solo career, Mary begged ex-Island president and renowned music exec Marc Marot for a meeting. Busy managing Yusuf Islam, Paul Oakenfold and Lemon Jelly at the time, he finally agreed and, after being ‘totally disarmed’ by her ‘exquisite, fragile songs’, signed her.

Her recent debut solo EP 'Making My Move' caught the attention of BBC Southbroadcaster Phil Jackson and lead track ‘Trying To Love You’ received rave reviews from his demo panel. Mary also spent time in Nashville in 2010 where she wrote with Roger Cook and performed in front of hit songwriter Benita Hill, impressing her so much that she has an invitation to write together next time she visits. Back in London, she continues to write with hit makers Tim Powell and Ben Cullum, brother of Jamie.
