"Radio Promotion"

“Some first impression highlights of Maryline, 'Russian Rhapsody', a well crafted blend of genres that come together to form a warm rich sound. Track 1: “Harmonicon“, Crisp mix of traditional Russian sounds theme with modern dance beats creates an irresistible and unique sound. Lush vocal harmonies, exotic yet warm & clear lyrics. Track 3 “Everything”, strong silky vocals against a lilting background gives a perfect upbeat yet soothing love song. Track 6 “Tell Me“… powerful yet light perfect AC song. Memorable and addictive melody and harmonies“.

"Making A New Path"

Black artist makes own path in new music genre

Marietta Daily Journal Staff Writer In the entertainment industry,
performers often have one special moment that reassures them they've "made
it," or at least reached their personal goal. Maryline Blackburn, a
Marietta songstress, felt goose bumps when first spotting her CD in Tower
Records in Buckhead among albums of artists she's loved and admired
since childhood.

As an black woman who grew up hearing groups like the Jackson 5 belt
out buttery-smooth tunes of Motown, you might expect to find Ms.
Blackburn's album in a row labeled "R&B" or "Jazz." However, to locate it,
you'd have to walk to the other side of the store - where the featured
artists have a little more drawl but just as deep emotions.

"On The Rise: Maryline Blackburn"

Maryline Blackburn stands on a stage with lights beaming down on a shapely frame reminescent of Beyonce Knowles. She whips her long jet-black hair in Janet Jackson fashion. And when she belts the first note through her full lips, the room resonates with her distinctive twang.

Despite having the look of an R&B diva, Blackburn was country before it was cool. But is it cool for a “sista to sing the words of Loretta Lynn and Waylon Jennings? Blackburn says county music is in her heart. “I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska, and there were mostly country music stations on the radio. My parents bought R&B records, but I fell in love with country.

Blackburn, a former Miss Alaska, recalls that though her talent portion wasn’t a country and western song, it marked the beginning of a singing career. Having toured with Bob Hope and the Platters, Blackburn has performed other genres of music, but it's country that keeps pulling her back. She lists Tammy Wynette, Charlie Pride and Willie Nelson as some of her favorite artists.

Having just released her first CD entitled Maryline, the singer is making strides to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of her career goals. One might think the odds are against the aspiring singer trying to have success in a music genre with a storied history of little diversity. The adversities are simply motivation for the woman classically trained as a pianist since the age of 5.
