Bio
Introduced by a mutual friend who thought they might be interested in writing some songs together, it began as a casual relationship, and quickly became a bit of a compulsion. Sometimes a song-writing session would evolve into a few interesting melodies or an intriguing lyrical line....sometimes it would turn into several complete songs.
Sometimes (most often) there is laughter. Sometimes there are tears. Whatever the case, Masonette writes and performs songs from the heart, capturing real life experiences - from love and loss, to torn friendships, to drinking in bars and just having fun.
The sound has been likened to a mix of “Sarah McLaughlin-meets-Coldplay-meets-Chantal Kreviazuk in a dark alley-meets Maroon 5-meets a bottle of wine”.
Shaina Rose Ireland and Dasha Duquette both began in the world of classical training. Shaina has a degree in Opera from the Vancouver Academy of Music which has provided a strong foundation for her vocal abilities, as well as writing style. Dasha has her ARCT in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music and holds her Diploma in Performing Arts from Douglas College. Besides their classical beginnings, both perform and write in a variety of styles, from Jazz and Blues (Shaina often performs with a 30 piece jazz band) to pop and rock (Dasha grew up on a mix of rock and metal and has shared the stage with many mainstream pop-rock artists such as Gob, K’naan, The Sheepdogs, and Chilliwack). Their juxtaposition of writing styles makes Masonette’s sound truly unique, palatable, and interesting.
