Masquer is the new sideproject of Kicki Halmos (Lowood, Idoru) and Pelle Lundqvist (Idoru). The Stockholm-based duo creates dark cinematic soundscapes by mixing shimmering electronics, sweeping melancholic melodies and dreamy shoegaze guitars. Kicki's haunting vocals might bring to mind the Cocteau Twins and Siouxsie & The Banshees, but the whole package is beamed straight out of The Cure's Pornography.
So far Masquer have released only a self-titled EP, available as a free download from their MySpace and last.fm pages, but I really hope that a full-length album will follow soon. So if you are looking for a record that amalgamates a witches' brew of 80's post-punk and 90's shoegaze into an ethereal, sophisticated and self-sufficient dark whole, you've just hit the jackpot.

Friday! A great day on so many levels, not least because it is the day of the SpaceScan. This week there’s been mocking about with mathematical theories while digging Finnish alternative rockers Day Eleven and a short flashback to the darker times now behind us courtesy of brand new Swedish shoegaze ‘n electro duo Masquer.

Masquer entwine lonesome, broken guitar lines drowned in chorus with beautiful teen angst vocals and catchy synthesizers backed by lo-fidrum machines. They remind you of your favorite 80's mixtape, and it hits you right there, like they're channeling that poetic pop love
from your past.
The long awaited debut album “Cover My Face As The Animals Cry” is now finished. The album, produced by artist and composer Per Egland and mixed by Björn Hansell (Streetwaves, Fever Ray, will be distributed by Rough Trade/G-records and released in September 2011.
Their first single “Happiness” was released in May together with a remix by Swedish-German
techno act The Field (Kompakt). “Happiness” was played frequently on national radio and Masquer recieved critical acclaim amongst music- and fashion blogs such as Dazed Digital and PSL. Next single include a remix by Swedish electronica artist Andreas Tilliander, and will be out August 17th.
The Stockholm based duo has performed frequently the past year and played at venues together with acts like Niki And The Dove and also toured as opening acts for artists like The Field and Asha Ali.
Masquer is Kicki Halmos (vocals/synthesizer/programming) and Pelle Lundqvist (bass/guitar).
Kicki is also a member of Swedish duo Lowood
