"Arbor / Ypsi Part 5 - Match by Match - 2/4 (@ Woodruff's)"

"Well, it feels like folk, only, given an air of the ornate with the opulent instrumentation of accordion/piano/ukulele - but nothing dirgey or day-dreamy - fervent acoustic guitars keep things stirring under passionate vocals..." - Deep Cutz

Bio

Match by Match was started almost by accident in March of 2010 when, due to random technological chance, Gray (of Red Lanterns) and Melissa met via internet chat. Realizing they were both frustrated by the lack of opportunity to make the kind of music they wanted to hear, they started collaborating, Gray playing guitar and Melissa playing accordion and piano.

Eventually, they recorded a demo EP, "Books," played several shows up and down New England, and generally created a ruckus. Somewhere along the way, they relocated to Ann Arbor and started wearing formalwear, not in that order.

Match by Match was recently named the winner of The Ark's Fall 2010 Student Songwriter Series and played as the featured special guest to Bobby Long at his debut performance at the Ark. In the relatively short time they've been a band, they've played with numerous local and national acts, including Chris Bathgate, The Ultrasounds, Archie Powell and the Exports, We Are The Willows, and received positive feedback from Radio Free Chicago, Mostly Midwest, Indie College, the Wenatchee World, and 107.1's John Bommarito (who featured us on his "Acoustic Brunch with John Bommarito").

"Books" and "My Constant Companion" EPs are available for download at matchbymatch.bandcamp.com, and MxM are hard at work recording their debut album "American Crowbar," which will be released this summer.
