Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Usher and Brian McKnight are the key musical inspirations for Mateus. Stevie Wonder's music in particular played a huge role in influencing Mateus's passion for music. In 2006 Mateus was pronounced legally blind at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Over the course of the next year Mateus learned to play the piano and the drums and wrote his first song titled "Human Effect." This song is about overcoming Human trials and Tribulations. Shortly after writing "Human Effect" Mateus miraculously regained his vision. Thus beggining his journey toward becoming a successful songwriter/musician and recording artist known as "Mateus."
