Bio

To simply say that Math is short for Matthew is to miss much of the point when talking about the 16 year old phenom who is a singer, dancer, songwriter, rapper, model, and well, pretty much anything he sets his sights on. His fusion of natural talents combined with a tireless commitment to honing those skills has Math Allen in the exact position that he always knew he'd be in, ready. "I'm the guy that wakes up in the morning thinking about how I can get better, spends the day getting better, then goes to bed thinking about how I'm going to get better tomorrow." says the multi-talented vocalist from Carson, CA.

In his quest to establish himself as the new voice of Male R&B/Pop, Math, has spent the majority of his life studying the masters that have come before him. It's been an exhaustive education that began even before he took his first breath when his parents would play music for him everyday while still in the womb. Through headphones attached to his mother's belly he was exposed to a daily diet of iconic song selections ranging from Bach to Babyface. It stands to reason that it only took him 9 years of life to figure out exactly what he wanted to do with the rest of his. He recounts a particular childhood memory, "I was watching a live performance of my idol, Michael Jackson and I told my mom 'That's going to be me one day'. She looked at me and said 'I know.'"

His goal was to take his favorite bits and pieces from each artist to enhance his own talents in a way that would blend them into his own unique sound and style. It was this sound and style along with his striking good looks that first caught the attention of his manager, Jeray Goins. Math had sent in a song he had recorded in hopes of getting a song feature with Jeray's client, The Rangers, of whom Math is a big fan. "His talent was still raw but you could tell he had something really special going on." recalls Jeray of the first time he heard Math Allen. Not only did he approved the collaboration with The Rangers which resulted in the virally popular track, "Bugatti Swag", Jeray also introduced Math to his longtime friend and multi-platinum producer, Lamar Van Sciver of The Ambassadors. Impressed with his songwriting ability, Lamar immediately placed Math on his writing team where he went to work penning songs for other artists on The Ambassadors' roster. In addition to writing he would also demo most of the songs he wrote and it soon became very apparent to all involved that he was ready for a project of his own.

Embarking on his project the team shared Math's vision of creating a sound that was singularly his. He is mindful that both his voice and looks have at times garnered comparisons to another of his idols, Chris Brown, but he wanted to make sure that any similarities ended there. What resulted is an alchemy of hip hop, pop, and R&B with sprinklings of dubstep and dance, seamlessly bound together with classic soul underpinnings reminiscent of golden era Motown with decidedly modern approach. From the 808's on "All Black", to the dub elements of "Just Be You" each song features inventive musical elements that when combined with Math's imaginative melodies and clever wordplay create a style that is concurrently eccentric yet familiar to the ear.

Some may find it odd that an artist who spent thousands of hours studying the music of others would be so adamant that his music not sound like anyone else's but as Math puts it, "If nothing else, I learned that originality is key if you want to be a legend." He takes a reflective pause then continues, "And I want to be a legend."
