Bio

Upon graduating university in 2003, Mathew Snow moved to Akron, OH where a small yet potent Blues music scene (consisting of Mike Lenz, Patrick Sweany and of course, the Black Keys) reignited his desire to write songs. After a few years of practice, a move to New York City, and the end of a relationship, he began writing what would eventually become the 11 song debut: Mathew Snow & the Way It Was.

"The record is basically the sound of me trying to make sense of the emotions I felt during and after a breakup, which I know has been done 3 million times over but it was my way of overcoming the disappointment. It helped me acknowledge what happened and why it happened and to look ahead to new possibilities--which is why I decided to call the record '...the Way It Was."

To go along with its title, Snow wanted the record to echo the sounds of Rock, Blues, Funk & Soul music from the 60's and 70's - periods from which he cites many influences. In order to achieve this, he and 3 friends (3 HUGELY talented musicians - Marc LaGana, Josh Moyer and Greg Trenouth) worked with Travis Harrison, president of Serious Business Records, tracking the crux of the record live onto 2" tape in less than 20 hours, and mixing with predominantly analog outboard gear. The result is a funky, sometimes angry, sometimes sorrowful 38-minute record of raw Blues Rock with a touch of soul.
