Bio

Fuck, yeah’! was the first thing that came to mind when the Dutch fivesome - soon after to be known as Matik - played together for the first time. Four individuals all with very different backgrounds without consciously looking for one another found each other through a set of circumstances that can only be called serendipity. Things just have a funny way of working themselves out. The ‘ElectroPunkPopRock’ sensation was born.

Immediately Matik started working together intensively and building on their repertoire: Phat beats, raw guitars, electronica blending with distinct vocals, creating a most unique sound. A combination of Soulwax, LCD soundsystem, Softcell, Iggy Pop with a whiff of Scissor Sister grandeur and of course the Matik delivery! Any show by the guys from Matik equals pure energy. Dancing not just an option - but a must!

Their first feat was to win the Amsterdam Pop Price by an overwhelming majority. In a very short time span Matik delivered some very special and pivotal shows and performances. As the fans who were at the Amsterdam Dance Event, Mystery Land, 5daysoff, RAW and PiV will be able tell you – each and every one of them was one of those shows that will be recalled by people as “I was there when…” .

Matik has got fans across the board, by special request Matik played with the Infadels on their Dutch tour and the band delivered a special performance for ubercool designer Bas Kosters at his summer presentation.

Meanwhile Matik independently recorded and released an EP of 5 songs, which soon generated a flurry of interest from press, labels and promoters alike. Before anybody could say ‘cheers’ Heineken picked up their track ‘Dance it Off’ for their summer TV campaign, but then decided to extend – still running strong today. Trendsetting 3voor12 also voted ‘Dance it Off’ as one of their 2006 tracks of the year!

End 2007 the first full album will be released

Not surprisingly Matik is hotter than a baked potato at the moment. Requests for performances at festivals, club venues and radio showcases keep pouring in. Whilst their fanbase grows Matik has attracted a stellar set of producers who will work with them on their debut album. Watch this space!
