Feeling a bit camera shy

The Beatles "Abbey Road" was my introduction to music. Everything grew from that. Early on I played trumpet and was heavily exposed to jazz and classical music through my early teens. When I was 16 years old I picked up the guitar and the fog was lifted. I have been writing and playing ever since.

I produced an early demo in college. It was my first time in a studio. After moving to Chicago I formed my first band named Sylvia Said. We produced a 3 song demo and went out and played locally for about 5 years. During that time we made our only album, ZHA!

Sylvia broke up and I formed WAD. It was a more experimetal project that played out for about 2 years and produced one demo.

After WAD, i retired to the studio and began serious recording again. Exposure to Neutral Milk Hotel, Wilco, and Radiohead led me to believe that there was again a market for real music. Inspired by these and several other "indie" bands I decided to make this album.

Through prog, new wave, Prince, hard core punk, alt rock, and bands like NMH, Radiohead and Wilco my ideas have evolved. And in the end, it all comes back to the songs. My love of Rock music combined with an appreciation of classical and jazz has forged a widely varied songbook. While this might be a problem for some, I believe that it is an asset for me. Styles may vary but the truth is always the same. And it has to Rock.

I also find that my ability to play all of the instruments helps to solidify my vision. Through days of arranging, mistakes and revision, the songs are allowed to take on their own lives.
