"Get to Know Matrix P"

w Matrix P

Name: Matrix P
Age: 26
Lyricist/Singer
How long have you been in the Charlotte area?

I’ve lived in the area for about 7 years.
What is your background?
I come from Belmont,NC where I grew up, I come from a musical family full of singers and song writers such as (Uncle) Russell Harrington and (Aunt) Kelly McGlenn (Gospel). Russell Harrington was the reason I decided to do music traveling with him and watching him perform and record.
When did you start music and what got you into it?
It started as just a hobby playing around in my Uncle’s (Russell Harrington ) studio in high school. My cousins (Brandon young, Daniel Holmes, Joshua Robinson, Michael Holmes, Cameron McGlenn) and I recorded a 15 song cd and sold it to the students in our high school and the CD did well, I’ve been addicted every since. I had to pause on the music for a while because I left to attend and play football for Western Carolina University. While I was there I would still come home and record when I had the time. After I was done with school I came back to Charlotte.
Who are some of your favorite artists (musically, artistically)?
I’ve been inspired by so many artist musically and artistically such as: Michael Jackson, Korn, Limp Biscuit, QTip, and Outkast. There are my more but those are the main artist. I also read a lot of books and find interest in art. My favorite artist is Jean-Michel Basquiat and Augusta Savage.
Why do you think people should listen to you?
I think people should listen to my music because it has substance and I have also created my own genre called “Kuntry Hippy Rap” to describe this genre it is a mixture of soulful, melodic music about life, politics, and the worlds problems using metaphors and hidden messages in the lyrics. With my music I hope to start conversation among listeners when trying to decipher my lyrics.
What is your opinion on the music scene here in the Charlotte area?
I like the NewCharlotte Movement that Deniro farrar and Duru tha King has going it is placing a spotlight on charlotte that may have not have been there before. I love that the city is so diverse and I find myself always in the Noda district. I also like Stranger day an artist from Charlotte.
Tell me about you first show in front of people?
Ive been performing all my life, singing in church and in my high schools chorus but my First Show was actually in front of a sold out crowd at the 2xsalt venue. I opened up for my aunt Kelly McGlenn. I was so nervous until my band started and then I feel like I’m at home on the stage. It was a total success and I’ve been doing shows ever since.
What are you currently working on and where are you playing at?
I am currently working on my first EP called “The Book Of Jon” this will be available on ITunes and Google play. I’m also working on a group project with my childhood friend TD 2Fly.
Where would you like to be in 5 years?
I would like to be traveling the world performing my music with my band “Ma Viv House.”
What else do you do besides music?
I am an EC teacher at South point high school where I work with children with mental disabilities which is another passion of mine. - Clt Plus
