Matt Angell

Growing up in Karratha, a small mining town in the Pilbara region on Western Australia's Northwest coast, Matt’s first steps into music began when a kind school teacher lent him an old guitar, which had blown out the back of a 'Mini Moke', and a sheet of paper with a few chords on it. As time passed, he managed to get the odd lesson here and there when he could, but mainly taught himself to play from old books and records. The rugged landscape and isolation of this area gradually infused itself into his song writing and is subsequently reflected in his music. It's a hybrid blend of Roots, Folk, Blues and Country, stripped back to reveal the song.

Being somewhat of a nomad, Matt has spent much of his adult life coming and going here and there, mostly scratching out a living playing music or doing the odd “real job” when times get a little tough. As such, he has performed over many far flung corners of Australia.

In 2005 Matt released his debut self-titled album. 12 original tracks recorded at The White Room Recording Studio in Brisbane.

In 2009 he released 'The Blue Light Show' which was recorded at Woodstock Studios, Melbourne. The idea for the record had been in the back of Matt’s mind for about 10 years. It is an album with plenty of space and clarity and a definitive mood.

November 2012 saw the release of a new EP '5 Songs'.
Recorded in his spare bedroom studio, it's Matt's first foray into recording his own music and a big learning curve. He built the studio, bought the gear, learnt how to use it, wrote the songs and recorded the music.
He then took the tracks to be mixed and mastered by Rob Grant at Poonshead Studio in Fremantle, WA.

These albums are a labour of love for Matt. Entirely self funded, he is proud to be an independent artist who is able to make the music he desires, without having to satisfy the corporate suits.

He currently resides in Perth WA.
