Matt Barbeau

Matt Barbeau has always done things his own way. Since forming Autumn Eve in 2001, Matt has been constantly stretching the boundaries of his own talents as a singer and a songwriter. His music has been described as “rock /pop with heavy world music influences - thick underlying beats melded with hushed poetic lyrics – a natural born storyteller.” Now back in world renowned Metalworks Studio in Mississauga Canada to record his new solo project, Matt is once again reinventing and redefining himself.
“I have always had an affinity for poetry and simple melodies,” says Barbeau. “My music is very honest. I don’t write about things I haven’t either lived through or expressed an interest in. My lyrics have two styles, one that is so honest it’s almost hard and at times embarrassing, to let people hear what I’m saying, the other is smoke and mirrors. In some ways it is liberating - I find myself able to breathe after finishing a song, like I’d been choking on the words to come out. I don’t write songs for other people, I wouldn’t be true to myself if I did.
It should come as no surprise that when watching Matt perform, there is a truly captivating almost vulnerable magnetic bond between the artist and his audience. “When I’m on stage, it’s hard to think about anything else happening in my life. Everything is put on hold for this brief moment, where, if people listen closely enough, they’ll know all there is to know about me. Performing allows me to be myself and somebody else at the same time - it’s quite therapeutic.”
