"Never The Same"

Every Decision a person makes in life influences their future and sometimes it takes them in a direction they didn’t initially expect. For Scituate native Matt Chase the decision to take a break from performing with his band, the Matt Chase Group, to work on his solo career helped him to mature as a songwriter and a musician, which allowed his musical style to evolve. The musician’s latest CD is his fourth album release (his second solo project) titled “Never The Same”.
The album features 11 technically sophisticated original songs that offer a thoughtful commentary on the passing of time and life’s different stages. The soothing melodies are coupled with uplifting lyrics that echo reminders of the importance of appreciating the good things in life.
“I’m always writing songs.” says Chase. “This album came about because I got the opportunity to record at Emerson college at WERS studios.” A Berklee grad, Chase’s musical education was in jazz but performers like Sting and Dave Matthews also inspire him. “Sting is one of my main influences. I like how he puts harmonies together,” says Chase who supplies vocals and plays guitar on the album. Behind his lyrics lies a strong musical team made up of his brother Sam Chase on drums, Tim Paul Weiner on bass, and Tim Butterworth on piano and organ.
When he’s not actively performing to promote his album Chase gives guitar lessons at The Music Machine in Easton. For more information visit www.mattchasemusic.com

Bio

For the past ten years Boston based artist Matt Chase has been performing his original music to enthusiastic crowds throughout the Northeast. He has played venues such as The House of Blues, The Avalon, The Paradise Rock Club, and NYC's Knitting Factory and The Bitter End. During that time he has recorded four full length albums including the newly released Never The Same which he is currently promoting. The new cd brings the music in a southern rock direction featuring driving guitar solos, soulful organ playing, and memorable hook lines. As a songwriter his influences range from Sting to The Allman Brothers, to Pearl Jam to Pat Metheny. As a guitarist influences such as Freddie King, John Scofield, and Trey Anastasio can all be heard in his playing.

This foursome has been playing together for over five years and that familiarity rings clear in their live performances. They have the ability to play tightly written material and also take tunes into the land of improvisation. All four are graduates of Berklee College of Music.
