Matt Curney

Matt Curney honed his technique on the piano with classical music, growing up in St. Paul, MN. But after diving head-first into jazz piano, his musical landscaped rapidly changed to songwriting. Carnival cruise lines recruited him to play jazz on a ship sailing out of NYC, and it was there, spending his nights rocking back and forth on a show-band piano in the total isolation of the Atlantic Ocean, that he composed the music for "Strange Education". Once back on land, with a notebook of lyrics, he hooked up with two friends from college, drummer-prodigy Byron Johnson-Blanchard, and bass funk-master Blake Tanberk.
Their combined musical chemistry drew the attention from peers and professors, and in January of 2008 they went into the studio to record.
The new EP "Strange Education" is a 6 track song-cycle about the lessons learned and unexpected turns a life can take in just one year.
