"Matt Duncan – “Summer Song” & “I Want The Night To Stay”"

This guy’s got a great sense of melody and composition. Most of the time when you hear “vintage” music it comes with a current and usually hipster twist. These Matt Duncan songs feel honest, like they could have come directly from past decades, uncomplicated by subtle modern injections and living only to prove themselves as standalone pieces. - Pigeons and Planes

"Mini-Beats – July 2010 – Edition 23"

"4 out of 5... holy crap good indie-pop that culls the smooth sounds of soul with power-pop, handclaps, tambourines and awesome" - Beat the Indie Drum

"Matt Duncan: “Mean Streak” & “There’s a Thousand Boys”"

"Matt Duncan’s music lives in the real world. Now, the problem with saying that most of the time is that the real world is mostly a very boring place. You go to work, hang out with your friends, cuddle up with your spouse/other/Wii and fall asleep. It’s why documentaries have editors. But Matt Duncan’s songs impress me so much because they’re mining great songs seemingly out of the staggering boredom of real life and emotions that you are likely to experience quite often. It’s like watching my photographer friends find a fantastic photo in a room that I’d just as soon never see again. That’s a skill that’s valuable on both fronts." - You Ain't No Picasso

"Matt Duncan-"Good Times""

"This is the first I’ve ever heard from Matt Duncan. I checked it out randomly and it turned out to be one of the few good decisions I’ve made this weekend (Along with Tweeting “615 Rawr” at 6:15 last night/this morning. wtf?). I was already won over by the smooth vocals, tasteful snapping and simple bass stabs, and then at 1:15 that guitar came in and took shit to another level like the person who introduced the obvious combination of energy drinks and alcohol." - Pigeons & Planes

"It’s hard not to be impressed by a fine set of deep, velvet vocal chords like the set Duncan possesses." - I Guess I'm Floating

Bio

My sound borrows heavily from 60's and 70's R&B, from the people who perfected the pop song. But I have no desire to emulate the costuming or vocabulary of the past. I am a teller of truths, for better or worse, and a terrible liar. Cliched love songs, vague tangents, and grand melodramas are not my stock in trade. I write about the small, unsung successes and failures that keep most of us busy, while we wait for big cinematic resolutions. And I try to keep things lively.
