If you haven’t heard Matt Eakle blowing audiences out of their chairs and onto their feet with the David Grisman Quintet, chances are you’ve never heard a flute dig this deep into the groove. After 20 years of playing “Dawg music” Matt has put together his own band - and the groove has just gotten deeper!
“We’re playing original material, some of which we improvised on the spot in the studio. You can hear everyone’s influence on the arrangements. I wanted a rhythm driven jam band, so I called the friends I have the most fun jamming with! This is a tight-knit band. We share a long history of playing together.”
In the late 70s Matt collaborated with bassist, Alex Baum, and drummer, Jack Dorsey in a band led by Jerry Garcia’s favorite saxophonist, Martin Fierro. “Martin brought all his energy to the stage, physical, musical and spiritual. It was with Martin and his guitar buddy, John Cipollina, that Alex, Jack and I developed our deep musical empathy.” When he met piano phenom, Joey Edelman, Matt knew he had his band.
Check out the Matt Eakle Band and their new CD, “Hardly Work” to hear how powerful flute-fired fusion can be!
