"CD Review by C.W. Ross of"

Band Lineup: Bekah Lyons (keys & vocals), Ben Waters (drums & percussion), Mike Lyons (bass & vocals), and Don Mueller (guitar & vocals).

Matter of Fact is another great Christian band that has managed to sprout up from the very fertile musical soil found in Ohio. This band plays a blend of power pop music mixed with rock with a lot of praise style song lyrics. The band’s songs are driven by a combination of power rock guitar and melodic pop keyboard parts, along with an ever present drum beat.

This self-titled CD from the band is their debut release, on it you’ll find 10 songs with a running time of just over 36 minutes.

The songs can be divided into two distinct categories.
Songs like, “Cali Kids,” and “Trump Card,” have a more light hearted feel. “Cali Kids,” talks about hating Ohio snow and wanting to head to the beaches of California. Living in the mountains of neighboring state Pennsylvania, where we sometimes measure snow by the foot, I can relate to the song very well. “Trump Card,” was one of my favorite tracks because of the very unusual and interesting song arrangement found on it. The song changes between a driving rock beat to a relaxed island vibe several different times in the song. The song also uses a nice mixture of both male and female vocals on it.

The remaining songs fall into the category of more spiritually meaty. Out of this group of songs my favorite was, “Take Me With You,” a song filled with big rock beats. The song is also unique in that it’s the only song on the release that features lead male vocals. The song talks about wanting to pull closer to God, and using all of the tools that He’s given to you.

I also want to mention the lead vocals found in all of the other songs from Bekah Lyons, they’re spot on and really work well along with her strong keyboard work.

The band’s MySpace list some of the major Christian artist that they’ve played with, if Matter of Fact keeps putting out music like found on this debut release from them it won’t be long until band’s will be adding their name to the list of Christian artist that they’ve shared the stage with. To put it into baseball terms this release is, going, going, gone, it’s a home run! -

Matter of Fact - Self titled LP

Matter of Fact has a sound that combines powerful guitar leads and rhythm riffs with piano driven melodic pop. A terrific blend of smooth vocals, thoughtful lyrics, and pure emotion are what defines the groups sound. The band brings the style of rock and pop together, morphing those styles into something that appeals to a wide audience.

Matter of Fact was formed for the love of music with the intent of spreading a message of hope. MOF is influenced by logic, balance, and maturing life experiences.
