Bio

G-Funk is a bassist without borders whose musical pursuits have drawn him to participate in the local music scenes on four continents. Geraghty has collaborated with musicians from Brazil, India, Trinidad, Portugal and has journeyed deep into the musical enclaves of Spain, France, North Africa, Cuba, South America and the Philippines.

Throughout the course of his career, his compositions have served as compelling narratives of the journeys that continue to shape his musical style. From his compositions one might suspect that he is either a dashing double bass agent of jazz or a musical ambassador without boundaries.

His compositions are transcendent, not only of geographical borders, but cultural and musical traditions. Known for his creative ability to bring together distinct musical personalities into engaging musical dialogue, critics say that his collaborations with other artists have produced some of the most original and forward thinking sounds on the scene.

"Matt Geraghty has become a citizen of the world. Passport, the 3rd album from the Matt Geraghty Project, is the result of his most recent travels. Passport is a delicious gumbo of Brazilian, Indian, American contemporary jazz, and rock music. Matt is Chicago's gift to the music world."- Mark Ruffin, Listen Here Jazz Radio

Geraghty’s talents have been showcased as a leader and a sideman in venues like Smalls Jazz Club, the 55 Bar, the Green Mill Jazz Club in Chicago, The Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, New Orleans House of Blues, White Plains Performing Arts Center, La Taberna in Havana, Leblon Lounge in Rio de Janeiro, Onda Jazz in Lisbon, Monk's Dream in Manila and the Blue Room in Kansas City. His versatility as a bassist has led to performances with six-time Grammy Award-winning drummer Paul Wertico, Grammy Award-winning harmonica player Howard Levy from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and virtuoso guitarist Fareed Haque.

He continues to promote a cross-pollination of jazz concepts and global sounds among the various artistic circles he inhabits, for he truly understands the purpose of creating music: to promote shared experiences and stir the human soul.

Currently residing in New York City, Matt has just released his 3rd CD called Passport which including the contributions from 4 different Grammy Award winning musicians, engineers and producers. It features 10 new world-jazz originals with female vocalist Satya Gummulri from India.
