Bio

Famous Last Words, the debut album from Melbourne singer-songwriter Matt Glass, is a slow revelation.

At first listen, what you hear from Matt is the melody. His album is intrinsically catchy and highly accessible, with the classic, tuneful appeal of artists like Paul Kelly and The Waifs. Drawing from a range of musical genres, yet instilled with a distinctive, earthy guitar and vocal style, Matt's real strength is his lyrics. His words are deceptively simple - and like all the best songwriters, he skillfully merges the deeply personal with the universal, detail with symbol. Subsequent listens of the album unfold Matt's careful wit and the passionate, unflinching honesty of his vision.

Recorded over full year and a half by talented engineer/producer Dave Manton (Luluc, Gosling), Famous Last Words is a powerful debut - diverse, complex and rich in meaning. The opening track, The Soldier, is slow-building and melodic, it's spiritual call-to-arms setting the context for the journey of the album. Setting Sun shines with haunting Cello and giant orchestral touches that evoke the timelessness and inevitability of love. The final track, The Truth of it, with its bouncing rhythm and self-effacing humour, leaves listeners with a contrast, and wry sense of closure.

Live, the strength of Matt's musicianship, his charismatic stage presence and his easy, intimate connection to audience have long made him popular on the local acoustic music scene. The release of 'Famous Last Words', sees him take his music even further, to a growing base of devoted fans everywhere.
