Bio
As hip-hop continues to grow as a more popular trend, hip-hop artists that seek to set themselves apart recognize that the industry is not just about the music, it is about engaging fans on a much deeper level. This fresh and open outlook has opened the door for creativity for the modern day recording artist. Here, we enter a new wave of writing and producing with Matt G.
Matt G was born in Midland, Texas March of 1983. The name Matthew means, Gift from God which he has proven rightfully so, with his unique, deep approach to music. Since early childhood, Matt has worked on crafting his poetic and creative writing skills. A dramatic roller-coaster ride of childhood and adolescent experiences contribute to his compelling story of emotional struggle through various family crises. His imaginative and narrative nature drive his music, with inspiration from the perspective of an emotional observer growing up in the Post-Cold War era. Matts point-of-view stems from his experiences in small-town America, growing up through the controversial transitional phases of two presidential administrations. His childhood memories dont consist of a life on the streets of a metropolitan American city, but rather a small West Texas setting filled with adolescent mischief and early adult tribulations.
As a result, Matt provides a fresh lyrical perspective, using a variety of wordplay to trigger deep thought and insight in a unique story-telling fashion with imaginative rhyme schemes. He offers a unique perspective on society with an articulate and smooth delivery along with an intense emotional expression that the listener can relate to. Some of his favorite references for his music come from a vast array of literary interests including philosophy, social sciences, psychology, and other areas of liberal arts. His need to connect with the listener on a deep emotional level is what fuels his fans continuous need for more of his music. Influences also derive from numerous song-writers in all genres of music, including: 2pac, Notorious B.I.G, Eminem, Nas, Ice Cube, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Rakim, Outkast, UGK, Michael Jackson, Prince, Bob Marley, Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Boyz II Men, The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynard, Elton John, as well as dozens of other artists that have helped shaped todays popular culture.
