"i don't know what the music is like. i just know that when i'm singing sometimes some people laugh. hopefully, that's a good thing."

Biography

23 year old College Station, Texas native, Matt Graham accidently superglued both his eyes shut one time. He likes to cook. He likes to make music. He likes to listen to music. In the past year, Matt has been a founding member of the following bands: Pride Rock, Last Time Playing, Robot Sounds and the White Liger, The Poinsettia Project, Hopscotch Bill, Earth-Fire-Wind-Water-Heart, Handstands for Better Tans, Loquacious, The Christmas Unit of Family Singers, and The Real El Guapo. Most of these have been the same basic group of people. They're just really indecisive when it comes to naming the band.

Lyrics

"Hopscotch Bill"

Written By: Matt Graham

He moved across the city
At the mean old age of five
To a street full of little girls
Where Bill was the only guy

On a street across the city
The one from which he moved
There was plenty bloody knuckles and dodge ball
No jacks or hula-hoops

There was cowboys ridin’ on stick horse
There was plenty of wars to fight
His parents tried to buy him back with baseball cards
But what they did to little Bill ain’t right

Still, he shot out the door guns blazin’
Just to get the lay of the land
But Bill could not believe the sight he saw
The day that he moved in…

He saw hula-hoops and double-dutch
Jacks and dolls and girls playin’ dress-up
Playin’ house and school
And it wasn’t cool with Bill to be the “pop”
He said, “I’m so mad at my mom and dad
I just wanna chunk a rock”

So he picked up the first stone that he saw
It was the spare he kept in his overalls
He threw it hard and he threw it high
Everybody thought that they would lose an eye
It smacked and skid and it finally stopped
In a square that was drawn in hot-pink chalk
And in the center of the square
There was a number six.

Well, the neighborhood was silent
And still with fear and shock
One brave girl piped up and said,
“Bet you can’t touch the square with the rock!”

Well, Bill was a mean little son of a gun
He was man right down to the bone
And he knew a challenge when heard it
And he’d never left one alone

So, he stepped up to the first square
The square with the big pink “1”
He felt like a stranger in a strange, strange land
On the banks of the river Jordan

Hopscotch Bill was a hoppin’ scotch

And the girls could not believe it
‘Cause they thought he was all talk
But it was make it take it and Bill would give his all
For another chance to throw that rock (repeat)

Now everyday when Bill leaves the house
He holds his head high, he lets it all hang out
He struts his stuff while they squeal with joy
Singin’ Hopscotch Bill is our favorite boy
And he blows a kiss when he throws his rock
And they watch him hop as he hops the scotch

Hopscotch Bill is a hoppin’ scotch (repeat)

Ain’t no bill like the Hopscotch Bill
‘Cause the Hopscotch Bill hops scotch (repeat)

"She's Coming Back"

Written By: Matt Graham

she left this town- six months ago last summer
she left us cold -‘cause it was winter in her soul
she cut me off-one season short of leaving
and she drove alone-and that’s exactly how she felt

you know her mouth was sick of smiling and it was tired of all the lying
‘cause nobody wants to hear that you’re not fine
they wouldn’t listen when she told them she was drowning
so she set sail for seas with storms that rage more like the ones inside

when you don’t know what to do
and you don’t know who you are
knowing what not to do and who you’re not is winning half the war
(she’s winning half the war)

’cause she’s coming back-to tell me that she’s crazy
she’s coming back-and it’s the best news that I’ve heard
she’s coming back into the light that makes her darkness run and hide
she’s coming back-in a weak way that is strong

all her sister’s friends are alcoholics
‘cause alcoholics never stop being alcoholics
they anniversary sobriety-those alcoholics
it’s no excuse for them to drink it’s just a part of who they are

hello my name is Matt and I’m a sinner
and my friend, she’s got a mean case of ups and downs
and we’re not proud of these-we just want to be honest
‘cause being phony nearly killed her when it ran her out of town

but she’s coming back-to tell me that she’s crazy
she’s coming back-and it’s the best news that I’ve heard
she’s coming back into the light that makes her darkness run and hide
she’s coming back-in a weak way that is strong

brokenness is not a virtue -it’s not a virtue you attain to when you cry
it’s a state you enter into when you finally recognize
you’ve been messed up; you’ve been broke down your whole life
(and she’s been messed up; she’s been broke down the whole time)

but she’s coming back-to tell me that she’s crazy
she’s coming back-and it’s the best news that I’ve heard
she’s coming back into the light that makes her darkness run and hide
she’s coming back-in a weak way that is strong

(she’s leading me back to life-in a weak way that is strong)

"Here is Grace"

Written By: Matt Graham

You never thought you’d find me here
In this hell you’ve made your bed in
But my love is just as here
As it is in heaven

You thought that you would hide in darkness
You’d die and not be seen
But the dark is just like light to me
And death is like sleep

You thought no one would love you
if they saw the times you fell
I’ve seen you at your darkest hour
And loved you just as well

You thought that nobody would touch you
Covered in disease
My hands are full of love and healing
One touch will make you free

Wake up, Get up come back to life
Lift up your weary head
Look deep into my eyes
They hold no condemnation
Neither should your face
Now is redemption
Here is grace

You thought I’d never find you
On the far side of the sea
But though you fly for far horizons
I’ll light your way and lead

You often think I never drew you
That you don’t belong to me
But I will always call your name
Mine is who you’ll always be

Wake up, Get up come back to life
Lift up your weary head
Look deep into my eyes
They hold no condemnation
Neither should your face
Now is redemption
Here is grace

I love you just the way you are

Set List

The main part of a Matt Graham set that people come to hear is the wierd stuff he has to say in-between songs. As far as the songs themselves go, expect a couple of cover songs and some funny originals.
