Growing up in North West Sydney Matt Hall remembers the precise moment he knew he was destined to become a musician “ I was thirteen and a friend put on Appetite For Destruction. That was it. The Gunners in all their anarchistic glory ! I made a pact that day to learn guitar .”

By the time he was nineteen Matt had relocated to Perth, Western Australia where he floated in and out of bands, busked, jammed and played everything from folk to rock and blues on the live circuit. In the late 90s when he returned to Sydney he began to write songs. By then an accomplished multi-instrumentalist Matt says, “ Music has always been the fuel that keeps me going, but writing songs opened me up into a whole new territory.”

Even the most cursory listen to Matt’s body of songs is enough to convince that here is someone who has found his own voice and terrain. His songs move from keening acoustic sparseness to free wheeling new world folk and mini-rock symphonies. His lyrics evoke emotional shades of prime Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley whilst remaining grounded in their own unique sensibility. His voice carries a bitter-sweet edge that swoops and soars.

Over the last two year Matt has been working intensively with Qwincy Music Producer and composer Phil Rigger ( James Blundell, John Farnham ) on writing and recording his startling debut album Lilies On Venus. The result is a deeply realized collection of twelve songs that announces the arrival of a major new talent on the musical horizon.

Matt is currently playing a limited number of live shows around Sydney while he prepares to make a video clip and promote the Australian release of Lilies On Venus in the second half of 2013.
