There was a time when a popular taste for genuine, reflective songs of memoir was the gold standard in American music. Musicians like The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, and Crosby, Stills & Nash dominated the charts, as well as captured the ears of the country. For many, it seems the songs of the 60s and 70s can find no match in today's music scene. What my dear friend Matt Sharayko has uncovered with his music is this lost art of communicating stories which speak to All Of Us. His music constantly descends to the level of the gloriously human, comprised of hymns to friends and friends of friends, and capturing audiences with the hues and textures of the everyday. It seems to me that what Matt has found in the midst of growing up, both as a musician and as a person, reflects the nuance we wish others would see in all of us, and somehow in the meantime make us something greater. Until then, his songs urge, let's have a beer, and let us hear what we've all been thinking lately.
