"Teenage Christian Singer Interviewed On BBC Radio Kent"

Last Sunday an interview with fifteen-year-old Matthew Lombart, from Barton Road, Canterbury was broadcast on Radio Kent's Sunday Programme. Matthew is a singer and guitarist, following in the footsteps of his father and his uncles who formed the popular 'Deep Persuasion' gospel group some years ago.
Back in September Matthew released a CD album entitled 'Believe In Him', which was publicised at the Stanborough Press Open Day in Grantham, Lincs. DUring the radio interview, conducted by Lynne Wallis Eade, a senior producer with the BBC Radio Kent, two of Matthew's songs were played - 'Believe In Him', and 'He Touched Me'. When asked about his musical influences Matthew talked about the gospel songs of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, music which he enjoyed from an early age.
During the interview Matthew was also able to talk about his faith and those who have inspired him to preach the gospel. Although still at school, Matthew is a lay preacher. As well as preaching in his local church at Canterbury he has also preached in the Adventist Church on Praslin Island in the Seychelles where, years ago, his grand father, Pastor Rene Lombart, was a pioneer and evangelist. Matthew's future plans include writing his own songs, producing more CDs and preaching in various churches in Europe.
Obviously unperturbed by public attention Matthew has performed for a large number of his peers at his school, The Simon Langton Boys. Despite his conservative 'easy listening' gospel style and his deliberate avoidance of more 'Popular' music, he won a lot of support and respect and has been a positive witness to his faith. - BUC News 2003

Bio

I have never made any secret about enjoying religion. And I've certainly never made any secret about enjoying singing. So the fact that I've been able to spend a lot of time putting the two together has been a source of unending joy for me. I enjoy singing hymns, the majestic music that exalts Jesus and raises our sights and our spirits. I also enjoy singing the spirituals that give voice to our sorrows and help us ease those sorrows. When I was growing up in Kent, England, my life was influenced greatly by gospel music. We always sang hymns in our church but at home, the family singing consisted mainly of gospel songs. Although gospel songs were always reverential, they had a lot more happiness to them and certainly a lot more rhythm too.
Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and Jim Reeves are a some of my favourite artists that I've enjoyed listening to over the years. I also have a deep appreciation for songs about love and the amazing feelings that accompany this powerful emotion.
Writing songs about such feelings and experiences that people can relate to brings me great satisfaction and happiness.
