Bio

Relocating can always have its affects on the soul, and for Matthew Robinson moving to Southern Alberta was an extremely positive one. It could have been the prairie winds or the seemingly endless veins of coulee’s, either way Robinson has taken his folk sensibilities and inspirations, and fashioned them into a sound that he can most certainly take on the road with an assured ownership.

“ Something That We Did “ is a wonderful first effort layered with beautiful melodies which are propelled by drop tuned Guitars and a Voice that is mighty and honest. Produced by fellow Canadian singer/songwriter Leeroy Stagger and backed by his touring band, this album is a perfect picture of what is to come from Matthew Robinson.

With new album in tow Robinson has been a very busy man. Forming a musical bond and a lasting friendship he was quickly asked to join Stagger and Band on tour as backing vocalist and lead guitar player. Adding to his resume, which includes performances opening for Sarah Harmer, Amy Millan, and a songwriting workshop with Matthew Good and Tom Landa of “The Paperboys”, he can now add tours of both Canada and Europe. Highlights from which include workshops with Dan Mangan, Jeff Stewart and The Hearts, and Joe Nolan.

Robinson continuing to keep his hardworking streak intact has also found time to lend his talents on albums such as John Wort Hannam – Brambles and Thorns, Indio Saravanja – Little Child, John Antoniuk – Always With You, and Leeroy Stagger’s – Radiant Land.

“ It is something that I can only describe as complete thankfulness for the art of music, and the ability to share and create with the wonderful musicians who are constantly building and learning such as I am.” - Matthew Robinson

One thing is certain, Matthew Robinson is a force, and we patiently await his second release, which is planned for the fall of 2013.

“ In a world where everyone and their auntie seem to be a singer/songwriter, 29 year old Matthew Robinson is a diamond in the rough. Heavily influenced by the folk singers and rockers that came before, Robinson has adopted an open tuning finger style all his own. Imagine the beauty and tranquility of Bruce Cockburn playing with the passion of Dave Matthews with the artful output of say Joseph Arthur and you get a glimpse into Robinson’s world.” - Leeroy Stagger
