"Live Trax Showcase"

....Thanks to Austin Kuebler from The Northerners &
Third Power for the great performances last night on the every Wednesday Live Trax showcases where various musicians & bands are
presented each week.

Matt Jasper, http://www.myspace.com/jasper,
and Andrew Jimenez appearing next week @ Live Trax...plus special
band guest. This is your chance to hear these 2 great acoustic
musicians in a mid-sized club over a more major club PA than the
settings they usually perform in. So seek to be a force in supporting acoustic music in the nightclubs too rather than just in the coffee houses and bars.

It has taken almost a year to come through on a promise that I've
made to Matt Jasper with getting him on one of the shows that I'm presenting in a nightclub setting.
If the support is there for him when he performs...it can increase the leverage with getting other acoustic artists on showcases that I present opening for bands. So please support the show...it may then make more possible for acoustic musicians that are seeking to build up their followings and get more
diverse types of shows.

Why do I make more of a point of mentioning Matt? Because
currently his scheduled shows that he's playing on are placed on a
timeframe that have good logistics. This makes it easier to support him and for him to not just have a good show at Live Trax, yet at the other venues he's playing at.

Thanks for listening...

"Moving In Stereo"

"The music of Matt Jasper conveys the passion of someone eager to be more than a by-the-books singer-songwriter. He writes what he feels and plays what he knows, delivering a sound that is sincere and to-the-point. Time will tell if that undeniable drive brings him the acclaim and attention he deserves."

"In 'Bored Games,' Matt Jasper's move is to the city"

For his third album, "Bored Games," Matt Jasper wanted to tap into his own experiences - of being a 20-something moving from Merrick to the city for the first time.

"It's about living on your own, about moving from looking for a relationship to being in one, about the transition into adulthood," Jasper says. "It's definitely a larger trend moving away from Long Island to the city or even to other states. And there's an even larger issue about moving from any suburb to a big city. But my own experiences are definitely reflected in this work."

Jasper describes his songs as "indie pop-rock from a singer-songwriter perspective" and those detailed singer-songwriter stories are on display in "Brooklyn Heights," where he sings of running out of hot water, keeping out the rats and moving from Babylon to Brooklyn Heights to start his career. Jasper taps into a classic chorus on "Ordinary People," where he sounds closest to influences such as Ben Folds and Ben Kweller.

His distinctive voice, combined with more straightforward singer-songwriter backdrops on "No Secret" or "Amanda," builds a tension that's kind of like David Byrne singing Jason Mraz songs, an odd, seemingly ill-advised pairing, that Jasper makes work.

It's a combination that Jasper has been working on over his previous albums and in the two years it took for him to write "Bored Games," which he will release March 2 on his own label, as he has with his previous two albums, and support with area shows starting March 12 and a tour of the Northeast in the spring.

"I have the knowledge to do this all myself," says Jasper, who works on music licensing for the Harry Fox Agency. "But we'll see what happens."

Bio

Matt Jasper is a New York based musician with an ear for a hook and witty lyrical sensibility. His music has been compared to artists as diverse as Wilco, Elliott Smith, REM, and Ben Folds, and can be best described as indie pop rock, with an occasional orchestral flair. Matt has played in a number of bands for nearly ten years, usually contributing guitar and vocals. He has recorded three full length studio albums (2010's 'Bored Games', 2007’s orchestral ‘As A Matter Of Fact’ and 2004’s concept album ‘The Distance Between’) and has also recorded two home demos (2003’s ‘Thinking Back’ and 2001’s ‘Jasper Makes Music’).

For his latest release, Bored Games, Matt Jasper has put together twelve playful tracks that follow the journey from suburbia to city and from single life to domesticity. Introspective and reflective, the songs tell a story of a man in his twenties, not yet jaded, trying to find his place in the big city. It’s the story of the time in life where you’re not yet quite settled down, and still hungry for what life has to offer you.
There are intricate vocal textures throughout the album, especially on standout tracks like “All The Possibilities” and closer “The Patient Waltz”. Musically, this record marks a departure from the previous release “As A Matter Of Fact” with a standard drums, bass and guitars combination. This stripped down approach serves the songs well, showcasing the innovative lyrics of “Brooklyn Heights” and “Infomercial Blues”, which speak of rundown apartments and quick fixes found over late night television. These subtle lyrical flourishes reward multiple listens, as a nuanced tale evolves upon further reflection. Playful and fun, catchy and contagious, Bored Games is anything but boring.
Matt Jasper will tour the East Coast starting in March 2010 in support of Bored Games.
Bored Games was released on March 2nd, 2010 through For The Records.
