"Guest Of A Guest"

Matt Lowell Will Not Fall Through The Talkhouse Cracks

Matt Lowell sounds like a less eccentric Dave Matthews, topped with dashes of Martin Sexton and Paolo Nutini, and a smidgen of Matt Costa. It’s easy listening you can dance, sing, and emphatically nod your head to. The Boston native (and Berklee alum) got the buzz spreading on last summer’s Camplified tour, but his new songs are tighter, more hooky, and completely ready for indoor, and larger venues.

With any justice (and luck), this guy will be huge within the year, so check him out while the bragging rights last. He’s on tonight at 8 at the Talkhouse, and tickets are only $10.

"QUOTES"

"Matt was an absolute blast to work with in the studio and on stage. His songwriting, arranging and interesting lyrical hooks were running through my head long long after I left both the stage and the studio. I have a feeling he will be making a strong impact on this tough industry very shortly, he has too much talent not to." - Mike Durham, Guitarist (Dave Matthews Band, Jewel)

After touring with the likes of Howie Day, Serena Ryder, Tony Lucca, and Ryan Cabrera Matt entered into the studio to work on a brand new project. His head had changed in terms of the music he was looking to create and had met producer Joel Hamilton (Blakroc, Sparklehorse, Matisyahu, Elvis Costello) through his long time buddy John Davis in Brooklyn, NY. John and Joel would shortly after begin working on Matts next release. After demoing out some new ideas for the record, Joel suggested that Matt meet his good friend and Dead Oceans recording artist John Vanderslice. Matt and John immediately hit it off and decided to work on material together at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco, CA. The writing sessions yielded the sound that Matt had been looking for and after just three days together they had six new songs. After carefully demoing and reworking the material, they sent it to Joel and John Davis before heading into Avatar Studios in NYC with a great list of musicians. Over the next month the team had a solid batch of six songs that John Vanderslice suggested needed a touch of the great Magik*Magik orchestra. After meeting Minna Choi, the head arranger for the orchestra, Matt immediately decided to get the orchestra involved, and it turned out they became an integral part of the haunting, yet gorgeous sound of this record (especially on the title track "Swan Lake"). Set to be released in early 2011 Matt will then begin touring once again, and continue to develop his already loyal fan base. This is a new sound and a new chapter to an already impressive independent career for the young twenty five year old.
