Matt Lowen

Matt Lowen is a Canadian Singer/Songwriter currently based out of Vancouver, BC. Accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica, Matt’s dynamic stage-show reveals a young man unusually adept at capturing an audience, leading them through the funhouse of perspectives, situations, and sensations he depicts in his songs, and bringing them back out wanting more. Matt’s song-writing displays a level of insight and imagination that is increasingly hard to come-by; coupled with a high degree of craftsmanship and a unique and oft-present sense of humour, his music, which blends elements of folk, rock, blues, country, and celtic, draws comparisons to the likes of John Prine, Warren Zevon, and Bob Dylan.

Having recently recorded a live in-studio album, Matt is currently focusing on promoting his music through gigging and networking, paving the way for the CD release. He also has a number of other recording projects on the go, among them a 5-song EP including a new version of “Matt Lowen’s Blues” which features a backing band. Matt can currently be found playing the club, pub, and coffee-shop scene in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley and is actively booking a summer tour of the Pacific Northwest.

Matt’s history as a musician and entertainer is a colourful one. His musical beginnings originated in a rural, backwoods setting with bluegrass music, picking the guitar along with his parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in the family band. No stranger to performing, Matt was able to garner starring roles in a number of plays and musicals throughout adolescence while continuing to hone his musical skills. Eventually, Matt strayed from his country & western upbringing to embrace rock and roll in his high-school band, “The Matt Lowen Experience”. Following high-school and a brief stint as a bass-player, Matt rediscovered the sounds, structures, and poetic beauty of folk, blues, and roots music and realized what had been missing in his musical endeavours. He picked up the acoustic guitar, ventured on a trip across Canada to fully fathom the rich musical history of his own country, began writing songs, and hasn’t looked back since.

Looking forward to the future, Matt will be continuing to perform and create while seeking greater exposure and opportunities on the heels of his upcoming CD release and studio recordings. Matt has always intended to have a long-term career as a performer in the music industry and is enjoying the ride while climbing the ladder to bigger and better things.
