Bio
Broke, jobless and on the verge of dropping out of school, Matt Mondragon (A.K.A. Dragon) was living as a local couch surfing musician in Mission Beach San Diego. Plagued with thoughts of running from everything but the music he learned to write, the singer-songwriting guitarist returned to his hometown of Denver Colorado to work part-time, playing at various local coffee shops. His Blues acoustic solo act is best described as uniquely unrefined with vocal elements containing pieces of reggae, hip-hop and easy listening using the musical influences of: Ben Harper, Brad Nowell, Jim Morrison, Deftones, Chris Cornell, Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain, Rage against the machine, Elvis and several others…
In fall 2006 Denver Producer/Engineer, Brian Gamboa of Mission studio, assisted Matt Mondragon on his three song demo. With the songs “My own advice,” “Feel good” and “Sunshine,” the demo was complete in three timely studio sessions. Soon after, Matt Mondragon placed third in a Denver based singer-songwriting contest against 40+ competitors. Since then he has headlined various shows in Denver along with performing at open mike nights in both Denver and most recently New York. Moving to NYC was a smooth transition for the 25 year old singer-songwriter who looks to express his art in this highly eclectic music scene.
