Bio

Matt Murdick is a fixture on the Pop Blues and Jazz scenes of Saint Louis MO. Seen performing regularly with some of Saint Louis' most noted local bands such as The Soulard Blues Band (blues) Hudson and The HooDoo Cats (Rockabilly), and has performed with many well known artists such as Ernie Isley, legendary blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin, Blind Pig recording artist Hamilton Loomis, blues legend Little Milton Campbell, and rock and roll hall of fame inductee pianist Johnnie Johnson, as well as other Saint Louis legends such as Oliver Sain.

Matt grew up playing saxophone in a small town, Bonne Terre, about sixty miles south of Saint Louis, Missouri, leading him to earn a degree in Jazz Studies from Webster University of Saint Louis. He starting playing the piano seriously at the time at Webster as well and soon found that gigs came more frequently for keyboard players than horn players. He giged on both during school but soon became known more as a piano player around the area than as a sax player and has pretty much stuck with what worked ever since. His band credits include performing in a band formed by country music artist Curtis Lance (co-writer of one of Kenny Chesney hits) shortly after graduation. Upon return to Saint Louis to live he and saxophonist Dennis Moser, and their jazz fusion quartet, The BeBops, were signed to a contract with Family Man (FM) records. They produced two albums (one unreleased) before the collapse of the record company. Matt then turned to the blues scene where he has become known as one of the best blues pianist/organists in the region. In 2005 he founded and led a Ben Folds/Morphine tribute trio called Folded Sand, where he featured himself as principal singer, and performed on keyboards and bari saxophone. Matt has done tours with Hudson and The HooDoo Cats to the US Virgin Islands and the Brittish Virgin Islands, and appeared in a local Fox network commercial to promote the Saint Louis Cardinals MLB team.

These days Matt can still be seen performing around Saint Louis and nationally in various groups including the Soulard Blues Band, Hudson and The Hoo Doo Cats, and with singer-songwriter Leslie Sanazaro, both in her solo project and in their dueling piano project 'The Spinets'.
