Bio
Matt Norris & the Moon are an Edinburgh-based folk band with a lively sound guided by tight four part harmonies and energetic acoustic guitar rhythms. Their music is accentuated with trumpet riffs and driving double bass lines, as well as fiddle, mandolin, piano and accordion. Their sound is influenced by traditional Scottish Folk, and inspired by a wide range of more recent folk artists especially those emerging from the nu-folk scene in London, and from the local open mic scene in Edinburgh.
The band formed in 2009 when Matt Norris met Tom MacColl at university in Edinburgh. Other members were added through connections from previous bands and from the local open mic scene. Since then they have supported the likes of Villagers, Rachel Sermanni, Alphabet Backwards, Kitty the Lion & Dry the River, have recently been 'artist of the week' on Amazing Radio and appeared on Jim Gellatly's new music podcast. They have appeared at the Edge Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a number of Folk Festivals.
Occasionally the band swap songwriters to form other bands like the jazz folk influenced 'Caro Bridges and the River' and indie folk influenced 'The Last of Barrett's Privateers' who have supported The Vaccines and Panda Su.
