Bio
Matt Ownby is a Composer, Performing Artist, and Educator from the Detroit, Michigan area. He holds a Bachelors degree in Percussion Performance from Western Michigan University, a Masters degree in Performance and Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is currently completing the Doctor of Music Arts degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he also served as an Adjunct Professor.
His performance credits include The Four Tops, The Temptations, Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, Elton John, Greg Bissonette, and Zoro the Drummer, as well as the Nevada Symphony Orchestra, the Las Vegas Pops Orchestra, the Nevada Symphonic Wind Ensemble, The Las Vegas Percussion Quartet, the Fremont Street Percussionists, the Henderson Civic Symphony Orchestra, the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Currently, he is the drummer/percussionist for the award-winning hip hop artists 2 Phat and the Family Funktion, which is keeping a regular performance schedule throughout the midwest.
His compositional credits include the publication of six works for percussion through Dutch Music Partners and Woodbar Music Press, several songwriting credits within the Amy Heard Band, and he is currently composing the music to a new full-length contemporary rock opera.
