Bio

Matt Reed is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist, who is currently playing out in support of his recent album, Where the Pale Girls Go. After playing as a side-man for such acts as Paul K and the Weathermen and Chris Mills, fronting the Sublunars, Sansaran and other Indie-Rock fiascos, and writing and performing music for theater and film, Where the Pale Girls Go is Matt’s first solo release.

Partially paid for through an endless cycle of wedding and society jazz gigs, Where the Pale Girls Go was intermittently recorded at Narnia Studios in Logan Square, Chicago and on a Tascam 4-Track cassette recorder between 2003 and 2005

Playing most of the tracks himself, the 13 songs on the album not only highlight Matt’s rock, jazz, mod/surf and country influences, but also his abilities as a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Matt's accordion, guitar, clarinet, Farfisa, bass, drum, maraca and harmonica playing is bolstered by the incomparable violin playing of Zach Brock and the pedal steel playing of Brian Wilkie.

Matt’s high energy live shows are a combination of his eclectic originals, his penchant for obscure jazz and rock covers, and his inability to sit still.

When not making his own music, or playing live, Matt performs and writes music for theater. He recently finished at two week stint at New York's Fringe Festival writing and performing in Billy the Mountain and other Wartime Stories, based on the Frank Zappa operetta. Matt wrote the non-Zappa music and his performance was noted favorably in the Village Voice. He is currently writing and recording tracks for album #2.
