Matt Sims Band

The Matt Sims Band plays music that has been described as “Beatleseque songwriting shaped by indie bands, but with a dash of world/jazz/blues instrumental virtuosity.” Matt's original music is heavily influenced by his travels through Asia, Latin America, and Europe. His songs have been featured on XM Satellite Radio which said, “This rather mellow singer-songwriter from Texas simply knows how to write solid song after solid song. The whole album is awesome.”

A guitarist since the age of 7, Matt Sims learned country and blues licks from his father and went on to graduate from South West Guitar Conservatory before fronting several different rock bands in Texas and finally settling in the Dallas area where he played popular venues in Deep Ellum and on Greenville Avenue before taking time off to travel, write, and record. Matt's guitar work reflects influences by fellow Texans Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughan, but he tries to keep the emphasis on a well-crafted song rather than the guitar solo.

Now backed by the creative drumming of Lance Ogletree and the smooth bass lines of Erik Schieffer, this Texas performing songwriter knows how to fuse pop, indie rock, blues, folk, and world music elements together with surprising ingenuity to create catchy music that defies ordinary categories.
