"Mattski Refugee Groove"

PLAYING guitar and helping defend human rights is all in a day's work for Geelong's own rising star Matt Novacevski, or Mattski.

He will perform in a fundraiser event for Amnesty International to help mark International Refugee Day on Sunday.

"I have wanted to do a fundraiser for Amnesty for a long time," Mattski said.

"It's a small contribution, but I'm hopeful to get people thinking a little, and put something towards their (Amnesty International's) good work."

Mattski, who has been playing for 15 years and has released two solo albums, performs groove-based music that is a blend of blues and acoustic funk.

The past few years have been prolific for his songwriting.

"It is my own energetic sort of style the most you can do with one person and a guitar," he said.

The fundraiser is to help raise awareness of the plight of refugees, thousands of who are displaced from their homelands every year for various reasons.

"These people, like all of us, only really have one life," Mattski said. "We tend to lose fact of this fairly easily in Australian politics."

Mattski will be perform at The Deck Restaurant in Highton from 4pm on Sunday.

Gold coin donations, $5 from every CD sold and a share of bar proceeds will go towards Amnesty International.

Bio

Mattski is a righteous sea-breeze of evocative, hook-filled, sometimes foot-stomping, sometimes reflective tunes. Proudly original, his music stomps, hollers, grooves and cajoles from a deep and stark sense of place and myriad questions about tomorrow.

Mattski has wowed audiences at festivals, in pubs, at galleries, to cafes, restaurants, fundraisers; from all-ages to pub crowds and more with passionate, slick, powerful and slick yet fun live performances. His skill, stage presence and great original tunes are made for the stage.

To some, it’s “kick arse blues”. To some, it’s “really slaying it up there”. To some, it’s “amazing songs…you wrote those?” To some, it’s “really grooving”. To many, it’s easy to dance to. To all, it’s one man, a voice full of soul, righteous lyrics, three guitars, a home-made stomp box, home-made tunes and a whole lot of live power…just waiting to be let loose.
