Bio
Born and raised in Waldorf Maryland, a town about a half an hour out side of Washington DC, Matt Stratford is a fuse of city culture with a home town familiarity. Matt’s adeptness in guitar started long ago at the age of twelve when his father showed him some simple chords and matt took the reigns, self-teaching and practicing even through today. His skill not only lies within the guitar but also with the drums, the piano and several other instruments. Matt’s style of music, as with most young musicians, has changed through the years, starting out with several rock bands, continuing through the punk scene and eventually ending up where he is now, a classic mix of acoustic rock and pop.
Matt’s influences range from newer artists such as Howie Day and Ben Folds, to the well known and notably talented Dave Mathews and Eric Clapton. He discovered his love for these artists while classically training and studying vocal performance at the University of Maryland and The College of Southern Maryland. This mixture of influences, along with life’s familiar lessons, inspired Matt’s independently self released debut album, “Just What You Needed”.
“Just What You Needed” is a compilation of songs written and performed throughout the last four years. This album engulfs its listeners with smooth melodic acoustic strumming and a hint of rock and roll. You cant help but to be entranced by Matt’s bewitching voice and at the same time feel the need to get up and dance. In the last four years, Matt has traveled up and down the coast playing over 500 shows in clubs, bars, café’s and private parties, over a hundred just since “Just What You Needed” was independently self released in June of 07’. And his schedule holds strong, already being booked midway through 2008.
Influential artists, a predisposition for life’s fantastical lessons and exceptional vocal, instrumental and composition skills, make Matt a force to be reckoned with . His euphonic tones and rhythmic beats set the stage for the future of acoustic rock and pop. As long as he continues to produce music, family and friends alike will be entertained for years to come.
