Matt Tomlinson is a crooner, a dreamer, and spontaneous performer whose music consistently captivates the imagination and the hearts of his audience. From playing house concerts to festival stages, he sings what he knows.
Manning his own ship as engineer and producer of his newest album, Matt Tomlinson sets sail across a symphony of sounds.
Philosophe(r) is Tomlinson’s sweat and tears. With no money to his name, Tomlinson started piecing together recordings from home demos, live concerts, studio sessions and even a warehouse in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, discovering an exciting alchemy.
Playing most of the instruments on the album, Tomlinson has created a musical landscape as vast and varied as the country we live in. ‘I try to listen to what each song wants’ he says ‘and have faith that they will make sense together as a whole.’
Philosophe(r) has not only been road tested but literally mixed in the back seat of the van as Tomlinson toured from coast to coast in 2011. Blending elements of folk, jazz and even world music, sparse ballads meet epic arrangements in true indie folk style. Simply put, Philosophe(r) turns lead into gold.
