"Top Five Fridays: Matt Wheeler & Vintage Heart"

"After hearing nothing but good things for quite some time, I finally decided the best way to catch Matt Wheeler live would be to book a show with him on a bill with my band Seasons. Though Matt often plays with a full group, this show was acoustic. I could not have asked for a better introduction. It takes guts to do the whole “just man with a guitar” thing; your songs are laid bare, no gimmicks, no distractions. Matt’s work more than holds up in this light. There is a thought out, literary quality to the lyrical work that I really appreciate. Heck, I’ll sign off on anyone who writes songs that reference “The Old Man Man and The Sea.” Matt’s latest release, the 2013 EP “Indigo,” features some of my favorite work of his, including “River (A Dark Chase)” and the title track." - Peter Winter - All the Day Sounds Blog Review

"(Really) Listening to Matt Wheeler"

"The regional indie music scene is brimming with deeply thoughtful lyricists and highly talented musicians. Sometimes they're even one in the same kind of person. Matt Wheeler's charmingly humble demeanor, sense of humor, and deep level of poetic introspection ensure that his songs are accessible, soothing and even gently challenging." - Chris Ruch - Fine Living Lancaster Magazine

"18 Concerts to Catch This August"

"Wheeler is a Lancaster treasure. The folk-rock songwriter incorporates violin, harmonica and cello into his songs, giving the genre a classical feel that never fails to captivate." - Julia Hatmaker -

“Trade your coins for a handful of wildflowers & let the summer rain sing you to sleep.” – From “#8”

Matt’s songwriting has gained a reputation for its crisp, taut lyricism & poetic, honest approach, & for its ability to paint vivid pictures with words. Balance that with the rhythm section’s driving bass & drum groove together with the haunting & sweet strains of the violin & the cello, & you have an orchestral folk sound that will draw you in & reward repeated listens. Live shows add in Matt’s signature inviting & fun stage banter.  Matt Wheeler & Vintage Heart's songs have sparked the interest of WXPN, WJTL, Fig Magazine, Fine Living Lancaster, Good Day PA, Fox 43, & numerous other media outlets.

Called a “Lancaster treasure” by PennLive, Matt Wheeler & Vintage Heart has been spreading its words & music from its central Pennsylvania home to listening rooms, churches, bars, house concerts, & festivals throughout the Northeast.
The band's sound draws influences from the storytelling singer-songwriter tradition of James Taylor, Glen Hansard, and Denison Witmer.

“Matt’s Strings EP caught my attention, especially the violin & cello on the song “Avalanche”. Now with the help of his fans he has released his debut album showcasing his warm sound & heartfelt lyrics. If you are a fan of Josh Ritter give a listen to Matt!”- Helen Leicht, WXPN Philadelphia
