(Austin, Texas) - Matt Wilson, renowned for his enthralling piano talent and engaging performances which landed him the lead in Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp's Tony-award winning musical, Movin' Out, will kick off the events at the 2nd Street Soundcheck, celebrating the opening of the Moody Theatre on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 3 p.m. The outdoor stage is on 2nd between Colorado and San Antonio Sts. and the event is free to the public from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The street concert, which also includes Dale Watson, and Rick Trevino, will be followed by an Austin City Limits taping of the Steve Miller Band in the new Moody Theatre.

“I've always been a fan of Austin City Limits. It's an honor for me to be associated with the opening of their new studio,” pronounced Matt.

“Matt Wilson is considered one of the hottest young pianists in the country today. Wilson's intense, red-hot piano playing literally has Houston audiences roaring on the edge of their seats and clamoring for more," raves The Houston Weekly. Matt has played every kind of concert venue there is, from Broadway in New York City to a packed and rockin’ bar on Austin’s famed 6th Street. He is known locally for his recent performances at the Dell Children's Gala, The Long Center’s 2nd Year Anniversary Party, Zach Scott Theater, Spicewood Arts Society, and his wildly popular Thursday night shows at Sullivan’s Ringside. ( www.mattwilsonband.com) native of Dallas and graduate of the University of Texas Austin, Matt started music early playing drums and piano in church where his organ-playing father was the pastor. After working his way through college playing piano bars on Austin's famous Sixth Street, Matt landed a contract at Disney World. "It was like getting a masters in rock 'n roll performance," Matt says of the three-year stint. He returned to Austin for a residency at the Ivory Cat Tavern on Sixth Street.

Matt's life soon changed dramatically when was chosen for the lead in Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp's musical Movin' Out. He moved to New York and toured with the Tony award-winning show for two years. Matt then returned to Austin to focus on writing his original theatrical piece, My Baby Grand, Matt's tribute to the great rock and roll piano players. My Baby Grand received high praise when debuting at The Long Center in Austin, Texas in March 2010.

Currently, Matt is touring with his band and recording a new CD. Recent tracks are available from Fable Records on the 4-Song EP simply titled, Matt Wilson, which can be found in many online outlets. Shortly following his performance at the 2nd Street Soundcheck, Matt will be playing at the Saxon Pub on Saturday, March 5th.

Matt Wilson loves performing with his band and connecting people to music. Please join him at the celebrations to commemorate the new KLRU/Austin City Limits Studios and the new Moody Theatre. - Austin Music City
