Matuto Moderno

One of the most representative groups of the generation that rocked the viola, Matuto Moderno´s members have grandfathers and parents borned in brazilian different countryside regions and received a legacy of the traditional songs originated from the colonization times, when the people was presented to viola (brazilian ten string guitar), wich became intimately related to religious dances and singings that generated many other musical variations spread out the country, such as folias-de-reis, modas-de-viola, catira, dança de São Gonçalo, cururus, toadas, cateretês, recortados, guarânias and more.

With a past full of heavy and hard rock such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix and many others, Ricardo Vignini, Marcelo Berzotti and Alex Mathias joined to Mingo Jacob and Ivo Junior and turned their musical interests to brazilian viola musical references and started to research more and more about it and it´s great masters and got stunned by whow beautiful and rich are the traditional brazilian viola rythyms, with a wyde influence from many parts of the world, from Europe to Africa and the brazilian indian drums and dances.

All these elements were incorporated to their music in a very unique an strong form, mixing the new with the old, the technology with the simplicity in compositions where you´ll find the tenderness of the viola or the power of the distorted guitar, both, separated or dueling with each other. Tião Carreiro and Pardinho, Tonico and Tinoco, Vieira and Vieirinha are a few examples of the countryside influences, among many others.
