"With hits and faithful arrangements, Max de Castro and celebrate Prince New Power Generation in São Paulo"

If São Paulo never had a chance to witness a performance of Prince, at least the city hosted a worthy tribute and served as farewell (with some delay, as the pop star died in April at age 57) on the night of sexta- Friday, 19, at Cine Joia. The celebration of the stature genius work was led by Max de Castro fan and four musicians who have passed through New Power Generation band that accompanied the US in much of his career. Over two hours and ten minutes show, the combo, reinforced by a suit of blows here, went through 16 compositions Prince, for audience of delight, which featured music personalities like Fernanda Abreu, the soulman Carlos Dafé and jazz pianist Robert Glasper, who performs at the SESC Pompeia this weekend. Mano Brown was also in the room and took the stage to send a rap in the middle of funk "Strange Relationship".

Even with few rehearsals, Cassandra O'Neal (keyboards and vocals), Dominique Taplin (keyboards), Gorden Campbell (drums) and Andrew Gouche (bass) showed perfect connection with Max on the scene. Taking a small flinch at the entrance of the third stanza of the hit "1999", no gap could be observed. The devotion of the Brazilian by the work of Prince told much for the beautiful result. In his youth, Max has even take off a security credential to be able to see their idol near the second Rock in Rio in 1991, the only time Prince performed in Brazil.

With this knowledge of the facts, the youngest of Simonal was tying bands of various stages of the honoree. He opened the set with "Musicology," which gives its name to the disc of the resurrection of the myth, 2004, and then went back to 1979, to remember "I Wanna Be Your Lover". In chronological order, he went to "Head", 1980, and invited the four boys metals to enter funk riffs in the middle of the blockbuster theme - including the "Sossego" by Tim Maia, who married well . Following Max delivered one of his best performances, singing "Little Red Corvette" with great passion.

The arrangements were almost always respectful, except in the proposed "When Doves Cry". The masterpiece has lost its minimalist astral and won funkeados blows, which was close to heresy. But the public did not condemn the diversion and enjoyed the transition to "Erotic City". After her, Max kind of asked permission to sing one of his favorites: "Pop Life" with powerful sax solo tenor Josué dos Santos. And if "Shhh," the first ballad of the night, had not caused commotion, the same can not be said of "Nothing Compares 2 U". Popularized by Sinéad O'Connor, it motivated a duet with Max Cassandra, who took center stage and showed off its privileged booming voice. It was the moment of greatest concentration of mobile phones at the top.

The finish of the presentation was also balladeer, just before Max and NPG chained over a set to burn the track: "Let's Go Crazy," "Take Me with U" and "Kiss". As the band took the stage around 0h30, the match ended before for a portion of those present, who left without seeing the felt interpretation of Max for "Sometimes It Snows in April". And that of course the final number could not be other than "Purple Rain" when the fan has shown that years admiring Prince earned him something by osmosis. Not only the precious plays guitar, Max de Castro also said the master of vocal mannerisms, which led a group in the audience to suspect playback use. Was not. It was idolatry. - Rolling Stone
