"Mayans New in town feature"

They are British, they are noisy pop and blend in some intriguing aspects of both the 80s and the 90s. Aside from the review of the single ‘Fitzpatrick’ you can read here, the band itself decided to give us a quick insight, also providing some interesting links. Not happy, we give you a taste of their music with the single under the cut.

Introduce the band to somebody who’s never heard of you:

Mayans is a teenage quartet from Bristol playing noisy, exciting pop music with nods to the best aspects of the eighties and nineties that takes on a thrilling form live.

Three words to describe your sound:
Loud revivalist pop.

Artists who influenced your music:

David Bowie, Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, Dr. Dre, Blur, DFA, Broadcast, Talking Heads, Fugazi, AFX, Bad Brains, At The Drive-In, James Brown, Echo And The Bunnymen, Caribou, Warpaint.

What are you up to at the moment:
Gigging all over and planning excursions to London for winter. We are also writing a lot of new songs with a view to recording early next year. Doing some remixes.

Tell us something nobody knows yet, tell us something exclusive:

We are all in school and yet through a number of different guises we have been producing and recording music together since about the age of 12. We are planning on bringing into the set a new Marvin Gaye cover for our Christmas shows. - Another DIY blog

"Mayans - Fitzpatrick review (APPLEJUICE MAGAZINE)"

Mayans’ ‘Fitzpatrick’ provides a beautiful mix of tempo changing, driving alt-rock with noodling guitars and ear pleasing chord changes, flanked with a smooth baritone vocal and octave-hopping bass line. Imagine your six favourite songs all being sliced up and stuck together, before being basted over with Krispy Kreme glazing; on paper, it shouldn’t work, but Mayans pull it off effortlessly and present us with almost six minutes of musical brilliance. Towards the end the song gets heavy and erupts into a crescendo of powerful post-rock. All in all a real treat from the Bristol boys. They’re working on their local game at the moment, but venture out to our fair capital before Xmas… something I will most definitely be attending. - Applejuice Magazine

Bio

Formed in the spring of 2011, Mayans began life at the demise of two other bands Jackal Club and Iveree, with a reformed desire to have fun making music again and fuse their twin loves of pop music and shoegaze with post-rock influences. With a sound that belies their tender teen years and a growing reputation for intense live shows including playing with the likes of Tangled Hair and Dutch Uncles as well as ventures to London, Mayans are fast being regarded one of the most exciting new bands in the country. They gave away their first single 'Fitzpatrick' away for free from their soundcloud late last year and are set to release their follow-up single in April this year.
