Such a tiny word and yet it holds such a powerful meaning. This is exactly the message vocalist Maya Songbird has set about to convey in her new single and video simply entitled “Lust”.
Have you ever felt true lust? That all-consuming powerful emotion, that involves thinking non-stop of that one person, whose mere touch can set you on fire? Maya Songbird’s confession of lust engendered through her compelling lyricism in unison with her young, lilting, and melodic voice, lends a naked honesty to to her sensual declarations of desire.
This gifted vocalist is now crossing over into the dance community. With remixes of “Lust” done by well known producers such as Jaswho? and Soulspin, of Temple Music Group fame, and DJ Cecil of “The People Party”, it is guaranteed to feel right at home on the dance floor. Her soulful vocals add a melodic, sultry element to the tracks that combine with the house groove to add to the rhythmic element of the whole piece, making you want to move and sway to the beat.

The demiurgic,gifted, and eccentric MAYA SONGBIRD is unabashedly a vocalist ahead of her time. The video for her new hit single “LUST” was released earlier this week. After listening to the song on repeat a plethora of times. I finally broke-down and could not help, but to write a nice blog on this limitlessly talented individual. The video wraps the viewer in a burlesque themed setting, with hints or soul,hip-hop, and electro-funk pounding through the bass lines. Since launching her career as an independent singer in 2010, Maya Songbird along with her manager and DJ, Alicia Johnson, has quickly earned the respect of fans and colleagues alike.
The flamboyant songstress was born in the historical Castro district of San Francisco, an area that plays a major roll in her musical sound and fashion style.
Raised by a single mother, Maya has always been encouraged to pursue a career in music, but it wasn’t until 2007 when she met Jaswho? of Temple Music Group that she was introduced to the world of Electronica. Maya instantly felt connected to the genre.
Soon after their meeting, Maya was featured on JasWho?’s, "Electrify My Love" and later, “Next Train,” two successful singles.
Not fitting the industries’ standards, the plus-sized, vintage-loving singer was successful at raising more than $5000 via Kickstarter.com to raise money for the production of her debut album, “Castro Kid.”
Followed by a successful fundraiser, the singer released her first single “Lust” along with a music video in the summer of 2011. The video received more than 1,000 views in the first week, and 5 blog write-ups.
Together with her band, The Canaries, and DJ CIA, Maya Songbird is looking forward to a successful career in the music industry.
