Have to say that the beginning of this tune somewhat put me off. But by around 2:00 in, I’m hooked. Mellow, haunting, poetic beat and vocals keep me listening! Mayhem & Me are a three piece band from Hobart, Australia. Mayhem & Me play melodious, left-of-centre, alternative folk music. Using the tones of the three different guitars to maximum effect, this music ducks & dives, dodges & weaves, the end result a perfect balance of light and shade. Mayhem & Me's music has been described as both 'beautiful' and 'haunting', the use of sparse undulating guitars, mixed with emotional and honest vocal delivery, leaves the listener enthralled, entranced and sometimes devastated. At the same time, M & M's songs are catchy and simple - speaking of universal torments - love, loss, death, life and sometimes, politics.
Mayhem & Me's live performances are energetic, emotional and engaging, moving seamlessly between upbeat folk rock, downbeat alt-folk and outright rock'n'roll. The songs were originally written as singer-songwriter pieces however with the addition of bass and electric guitar, M & M have created a whole new beast. Their live performance is an emotional outburst, both fiery and melancholy at once.
With the release of their first demo in November 2013, Mayhem & Me have enjoyed regular airplay on Hobart's local community radio station, Edge Radio 99.3FM. Mayhem & Me’s debut EP was featured on both Edge Radio and ABC936 Hobart with live performances and interviews with both broadcasters (“The Ride” on Edge Radio, Helen Shield’s afternoon program on ABC936 Hobart). Andrea Young from the “Aspenbeat” radio program in Aspen Colorado described the song “Ribs” off Mayhem & Me’s debut EP as “soothing and engaging, not over-produced, intelligent folk, pop/rock”. Since the release of their debut EP, M & M has been played on community radio stations all over Australia.
Mayhem & Me launched their debut EP at the Moonah Arts Centre as part of their Friday Night Music Sessions and packed with room with 110+ guests. Mayhem & Me gigged extensively around Hobart in 2014/15, playing venues such as The Republic, The Brisbane Hotel, The Night Owl, The UniBar, The Brunswick Hotel, The Homestead and The Coal Valley Winery. Mayhem & Me also supported singer-songwriter Dan Parsons on his recent tour in May 2015.
Mayhem & Me released their debut self-titled EP on the 31st July 2015.
