"Song of the new heart album review"

After being considered one of the 20 most promising new artists by French tastemaker magazine Les Inrockuptibles and after a plethora of concerts around our country, the poems and songs are ready to be presented to the public: in a format that is chiefly acoustic, intimate and with a rare passion, the songs, all written by Mazgani (music and lyrics) with the exception of Song of the Old Mother, with a poema by William Butler Yeats, and How Sweet I roam’d from field to field, poem by William Blake, the album is a celebration of music born of word.
Listening to Song of the New Heart we find ourselves immersed in Mazgani's voice and guitar, (as well as the band that accompanies him) and influences as broad as Leonard Cohen and Echo & the Bunnymen, Tom Waits and The House of Love. - Casa das Artes

Bio

Mazgani is a Luso-Iranian singer-songwriter, who initiated his career with the release of the "Song of the new heart" album at the close of 2007. This debut was critically acclaimed by music journalists who championed its grand songs, beautiful melodies and a poetry that is hard to reconcile with the fact that it is, after all, a debut - a starting point.

His music can be described as a poetic analysis of the rawest emotions in our lives: love, in its geographies of desire and prayer; the fall and the suffering; guilt and solitude; all are sung about by his unique voice, with a rare passion in a profound desire for light and transcendency.

Shahryar Mazgani started singing in 2004, counting Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits as some reference points for his newfound artistic voice. Beyond the poetry and the intensity of his themes, which he has presented live on tour throughout his national territory of Portugal, both in solo settings and with his band, Mazgani also counts on a stage presence that is worthy of those said influences.

In June of 2009, he released an EP, "Tell the People", foreshadowing the upcoming second album. 5 new songs produced by Dead Combo's Pedro Gonçalves. A raw, urgent cry for redemption.

It was followed before the close of the year by his first international release, "Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing... Mazgani". Released in the BeNeLux and Scandinavia, thie double EP combined Tell the People with 5 tracks from his debut album, and saw him showcase at Eurosonic 2010 and also led to a first concert at Paradiso in Amsterdam.

In April of 2010 Mazgani releases "Song of Distance", his second album, in Portugal. We are now shopping for an international label for this record. Please visit: promo.mazgani.com
