McCullough Girls

McCullough Girls

They are the real deal, there is no doubt about it. At a time when country music is all over the map and oft times not even really country music at all, Stratford’s McCullough Girls proudly showcase their authentic roots – all salty and sweet, spicy and heat. Built on the kind of pure harmony that only family can inspire, mother/daughter duo Deborah and Callie combine elements of bluegrass, folk, roots and Americana (or would that be Canadiana?) and deliver fresh, sassy, and honest original song

They are the real deal, there is no doubt about it. Mother/Daughter Duo, Deborah and Callie McCullough, building on the pure harmonies only family can inspire, proudly showcase authentic Country roots, combining elements of Bluegrass, Folk, Roots and Americana. Or would that be Canadiana? All that and a hint of R&B and Pop sensibility and... Jann Arden meets June Carter! Their extraordinary musicality isn't easily pinned down! Sure, there's a guitar and bass, even a mandolin. Now cue the dulcimer, autoharp, bangitar, standup bass and a Salvation Army washboard and the musical picture becomes clearer.
Their history is as rich as the music itself. Mom Deborah, going by the stage name Roni Sommers back in the day, is a CCMA Vista Rising Star award winner; a Juno Nominee with hit singles, acclaimed albums and many miles of performance experience. Along comes daughter Callie, the livewire filly with wild blonde hair and the foot-stomping, handclapping, guitar picking energy of youth... BAM! Their chemistry is engaging, hilarious and genuine, on and off stage!
Their second album, Bad Daughter, takes their edgy/traditional/hip rootsy sound to a whole new level. It's a bucket-full of stop-you-in-your-tracks new tunes, all written by The Girls, recorded in Nashville, produced by Dave Fowler (Dolly Parton, Collin Raye, Jamie O’Neal).
