Bio

McGowan is a contemporary Christian pop/soul artist out of Adams County, Ohio. With a towering voice and smoldering growl, he takes the stage with a fury of energy and charisma. His emotional execution and delivery are reminiscent of the early Jazz and blues singers, but his style is all his own.

Born Justin Allen McGowan in the sleepy Appalachian town of West Union, Ohio, McGowan cut his musical teeth on the local music scene, which was primarily country and bluegrass. He began performing at the ripe-old-age of twelve when his parents divorced. What began as a means by which to ease the pain from the divorce soon became a burning passion. McGowan first began performing at local functions and country music line-dance clubs.

It was during these early years that McGowan's mother fell on hard times. The fledgling family often went hungry and lived, most of the time, without the luxury of a TV or telephone. His mother continued to work long, hard hours. On one particular occasion she was invited to a church service. She went and when it came time for the alter call, she gave her heart to Christ. McGowan soon followed suit.

He quickly formed a vocal group with his sister, Jamie McGowan (now Renchen) and their cousin. The trio began performing all over the countryside as Born Again. The group performed together for the next five years and released one album, Lily in My Valley. Born Again disbanded in 2000 when Jamie married and left the group (she now performs alongside her husband and sister-in-law in the Southern Gospel group, Satisfied.) McGowan suffered another blow when his step-sister, Racheal Reed, died from the effects of an aneurism at age thirteen. He began drifting away from God.

After McGowan graduated high school he began experimenting with drugs and alcohol. This eventually led to an over two year battle with Methamphetamine addiction. He continued on this downward spiral until he finally received the call that his life-long friend had died. His friend and fellow addict had, on their last conversation together, cryptically commented about how disappointed he was on how McGowan had turned out. This statement, a comment that had initially been taken lightly, now haunted McGowan. Drugs and alcohol could no longer mask the pain and torture that were plaguing him. McGowan finally cried out to the only one who could ease his pain; Jesus Christ.

He eventually made his way back onto the stage, only this time he carried with him a lifetime of experience and infused a fire and passion into his performances. He married his longtime girlfriend Mahaley in 2006. The couple now reside in Manchester, Ohio with their sons Landon Isaac and Hayden Isaiah.

McGowan is living proof that God still moves in the lives of his people.
